Air Whanganui was established in 1987 by local families to meet the needs of Whanganui businesses following the withdrawal of services to Whanganui by the national carrier. The company began its commuter operation with a Piper Mojave flown over from Australia by one of the company’s founding directors.
From those early beginnings the Company has grown into a first class 24/7 national charter service and a significant participant in the provision of air ambulance and medical transport services throughout New Zealand.

Modern Fleet
We have three state of the art Beechcraft King Air turboprop aircraft, comprising of two B200’s and one C90 that are elegantly appointed and provisioned for executive and leisure charters. Our aircraft can land at all New Zealand airports serviced by commercial airlines, as well as smaller more remote airfields.

Air Whanganui is based in Whanganui which is geographically one of the most centrally located cities in New Zealand. This provides an ideal base from which to service all of New Zealand.

Andy Mudgway
CEO
With over 40 years’ experience in Aviation, much of it as a military pilot, Andy comes to Air Whanganui from the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Western Operations in Perth. He has a background in Senior Management roles in both Commercial and Military Aviation. He has been involved in the design, management and implementation of military helicopter pilot training in New Zealand, the U.K and the Middle East including roles in the implementation of Defence projects and contracts. Having held senior positions in both the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) and Royal Air Force (RAF) he originally trained in New Zealand and served for 8 years as a pilot in the RNZAF before moving to the RAF in 1992.

Rachel Keay
Safety Systems Manager
Rachel has worked within the aviation industry for over 20 years holding various roles and responsibilities. Rachel started out as an Air Traffic Controller transitioning to Senior ATC Instructor then Airport Safety Officer before joining Air Whanganui as the Safety Systems Manager.

Operations Manager
Scott brings over 10 years aviation experience and holds an ATPL. Scott is detail-oriented and is committed to delivering operational excellence, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Training Manager
Corey brings over 15 years of aviation experience across multiple sectors and is qualified CAANZ Examiner. Corey’s passion lies in pilot development, training excellence, and maintaining the highest standards of operational safety.
